Default for a little yard squirrel

i finally saw a squirrel in the mailbox squirrel house today. i was backing out to go to the dentist and saw her tail hanging out. i thought i would seize the opportunity to get a photo. but as i approached i knew there was something wrong with her tail. i touched it and got no reaction and then i pulled lightly but she was cold. i went back in the house and got a step stool and removed her from the house. there was nothing i could do for her. i wrapped her in the blanket material that was in the squirrel house. i carried her into the garage talking to her and apologizing for not being able to save her. i left her in the garage on the shelf and went to the dentist. i knew she was dead but i couldn't help but hope i was wrong. that maybe when i opened the garage door she would be all crazy and knocking things off shelves.

she was not coming back. i did take the ladder and check to make sure there were no other residents of the home that needed help.
i put her to rest out in the garden next to pooky the cat. i wrapped her in cloth and put rocks over top her grave. i said a prayer over her and apologized several times for not being able to help her.

she was face down when i found her. she had a cut or bite on her left rear leg. i think she got free from the neighbor cat and sought refuge in the squirrel house. she looked to be less than a year. she seemed to be in the same position that steve assumes when he lays on his back and lets me scratch his belly. her little eyes were closed and all i could think of was how horrible that she died scared and alone.

there has to be a heaven for these little ones.
i'm sorry but i can't stop crying.

You loved her in life and in death. May God grant you both comfort and His peace.

I'm so sorry for your little sweet squirrel but Mid is right, you did what you could for her. Bless her little heart. Life is just hard for wildlife, particularly the young and old. I rarely ever watch wildlife shows anymore, something is always getting killed or dying for some reason. I know it's part of the circle of life, but I just can't watch it, it upsets me too badly. You are so wonderful for taking care of her little body. She's free now running through the trees in squirrel heaven

BusySqrl - I so agree - they must think that attacks and deaths are necessary for the film to be any good. I won't watch anymore either.

Also - these horrible things happen and are just shrugged off as "it is nature".

Well, lots of things are nature but we intervene where we "justify" it.
